Our 3-Day Power Skating, Puck Control, & Positional Play Spring Break Camp will be taught by Ella Matteucci. Ella played NCAA Division I hockey with the Clarkson Golden Knights, where she won a National Championship in 2014. Ella later joined the Canadian Women’s Hockey League (CWHL), and later joined Team Sonnet of the Professional Women's Hockey Players Association (PWHPA). Ella has been coaching since 2015, she has coached U18 female hockey in both the OWHL and the CCSHL.
Instruction will include:
Day 1 Power Skating: This day includes national level instruction in Power Skating (CanPowerSkate). Instruction includes balance, edgework, tight turns, cross overs, stride, stopping, starts, backwards, backwards crossovers and pivots.
Day 2 Puck Skills: This day will include technical instruction on stickhandling vs puck control. What techniques (moves) to apply when how and why. All the fancy moves only work if and when you can get your opponent to commit. The finish: focusing on the wrist shot, backhand, snap, slap, flip shots, breakaways, bad angle shots, deflections, driving the net and coming out from behind the net. Day 2 connects the proper use of edges, and select moves enabling the player to get past their opponent and shoot with speed, power, accuracy and off both legs.
Day 3 Positional Play: On Day 3 players will split into their respective positions and will have the opportunity to apply everything they learned in Day 1 and 2 during tactical drills. Defence will learn a combination of backward skating and acceleration, pivots, shooting from the point, reading the play, understanding passing and rushing lanes, head manning the puck, how to play 1-1, 2-1, 3-1 and 3-2, controlled contact and blocking shots. Forwards will a combination of forchecking, backchecking, control check, cycle, pivot, tight turn, beat the player 1-1, face-off, avoid physical checks, angle and gap control.
